Talented junior golfers competed in the two-day MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour) adidas Golf Series at Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club in South Surrey March 20 and 21, with several players qualifying for international events.
Despite cloudy skies, heavy winds, and two temporary greens due to the harsh winter, some outstanding scores were recorded on the 62-year-old golf course, notes an MJT release.
Low overall girl and boy were Anna Wu, 12, of Victoria (73,75=148) and Louis Chun, 16, of Port Coquitlam, (67,74=141), who competed in the MJT Girls U15 and MJT Junior Boys divisions respectively.
Another high-performing division winner included Surrey’s Jayden H X Zhu, 12, in MJT Peewee Boys (72, 73=145), while another Surrey golfer, Jackson Wang, placed third in the same division (71, 77=148).

Zhu, who fired rock-solid rounds to finish at one over par (+1), was pleased.
“My putting for these two days was really good,” said Zhu in the release.
“It was a great experience and it’s just so fun to play these events.”
Two other Surrey golfers also stood out in the junior tournament: Nancy Liu, 16, who placed second in the Girls 15-19 division with a 76, 80 (156) score, while Tiger Yuanjun Liu, 13, tied for second in the Bantam Boys category, with a 71, 73 (144) scorecard.
Their play at the MJT event qualified Zhu for the FCG Callaway World Golf Championship and Nancy Liu for the World Stars Golf Championship, according to the release.
