Delta Police apprehended a male individual following a confrontation wherein he wielded a metal pipe and a wrench, issuing threats toward officers tasked with maintaining peace. On February 22nd, 2024, Delta Police officers responded to a report at a local Tilbury establishment regarding a former employee who was not welcome back. The individual reacted by grabbing a metal pipe and a wrench, aggressively advancing towards the officers. Despite attempts to defuse the situation, they were unsuccessful, leading to the deployment of a conducted energy weapon (Taser) to safely incapacitate the individual and avert potential harm to both the public and the law enforcement personnel present. Subsequently, the individual was arrested without further ado and underwent a medical evaluation, revealing no injuries sustained. Likewise, there were no reported injuries among the officers involved.

Identified as Michael Gadd, a 53-year-old individual with no fixed address, he was charged with one count of making threats and one count of violating a release condition. Gadd remains in custody pending further proceedings.

All Delta Police officers undergo comprehensive training in Crisis Intervention De-escalation techniques and Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT). ICAT, an advanced de-escalation program, has effectively resolved numerous critical incidents. One of the fundamental principles of ICAT is the strategic use of time and distance when appropriate, allowing officers to manage situations and prioritize safety above all else effectively
