• Delta Fire Open House: June 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Hall 3, 11375 84 Ave.; Come check out the Delta Fire and Emergency Services open house.

• Surrey Prostate Cancer Support Group: June 24, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14644 72nd Ave., Surrey; Meeting will be an open discussion format. Bring your questions associated with prostate cancer diagnosis, stress, treatment, after effects, support, your partner, etc. Come and share with one another and support others who have encountered prostate cancer. Family and friends welcomed.

• Guided Hike in Cougar Canyon: June 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Meet at Westview Drive rain garden, one block south of 72 Avenue; Cougar Canyon is the longest canyon in Delta, carved out of the glacial escarpment of North Delta-Surrey, by the active salmon spawning habitat of Cougar Creek. The canyon is unique as a relatively undisturbed natural environment, populated with old growth conifers and a wide range of other native flora. The trail is not maintained, so be prepared for occasional challenges such as fallen logs to duck under or climb over. Sturdy shoes or boots are a must.

• South Delta Garden Tour: June 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Ladner, Tsawwassen and Boundary Bay; The South Delta Garden Club is hosting a Garden Tour in celebration of its 65th anniversary, including a look at the “Secret Garden.” A limited amount of tickets will be sold for this event, $15 in advance or $20 day of. Tickets available at Harris Nurseryland, Sunnyside Nurseries and West Coast Seeds.

• North Delta Family Day: June 25; North Delta Community Park; Enjoy the annual parade along 112 Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then make your way to the park for festival activities and entertainment, such as the famous BBQ, face painting, rides and more. Want to be part of the parade? Fill out the application form at delta.ca and email it to parade@northdeltalions.org.

• Teen Night: Pizza and Games: June 27, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Do you love to play board games? Are you 12 to 19 years old? Then come to the library for a fun night of gaming and free pizza. Games and snacks provided by Imperial Hobbies.

• Canada Day — 150 years!: July 1, 5:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.; Chalmers Park; Join us at Chalmers Park for fireworks, children’s activities, BBQ and food vendors, live music and an official ceremony to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets.

• Tour de Delta: July 7-9; various locations; Tour de Delta promises three amazing days of competitive cycling action and fun festivals. 2017 event and race details at tourdedelta.ca.

• Parent Child Mother Goose: Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; George Mackie Library; Discover fun with rhymes, songs and stories with this interactive program for caregivers and babies 15 months and younger. Mother Goose helps your baby learn speech and language skills. Healthy snacks are provided. (Due to funding this program is open to Delta residents only.)

• Take Off Pounds Sensibly: Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Deltassist, 9097 120 St.; We have a friendly group to help you lose weight. For more information, call Arlene at 604-588-3949.

• Settlement Workers - Punjabi/English: Alternate Tuesdays (July 4 & 18, August 1, 15 & 29), 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Are you a newcomer to Canada who needs help adjusting to your new life? Free and confidential services are offered to help newcomers with all their needs during the process of settling into their new community. Settlement and integration services are free for immigrants, refugees and their families in B.C.

• Painting the Stars: Science, Religion and an Evolving Faith: Tuesdays, through June 27, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Trinity Lutheran Church, 11040 River Rd.; Many assume that being a person of faith is contrary to engaging scientific methods of understanding what is real, that somehow one needs to “check one’s brain at the door” of the church in order to take a leap of faith. But perhaps there is another way to live in faith without abandoning the insights of modern science. Come, invite your friends who wonder with you, and join the conversation. We value your insights, whether you are an atheist, agnostic, disenchanted, suspicious, just curious, or one of our respected interfaith neighbours. Come to any or all meetings, for free. • Delta Scottsdale Lions Club: Second and fourth Tuesday of each month; The Lions Club is a service club that welcomes both ladies and men. If you would like to be involved in helping in your community, join us on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month (not mandatory) at the Delta Golf Course. For more info call Al at 604-594-8783.

• Recovery International Weekly Meetings: Tuesdays, 7 p.m.; North Delta Evangelical Free Church, 11300 84th Ave.; Recovery International is a weekly community-based self-help mental health group that offers tools and techniques that participants can use to deal with depression, anxiety, impulse control, anger management and a variety of other nervous and mental heath issues. The self-help systems used were developed by the late neuro-psychiatrist Abraham A. Low M.D. and have been helping people for over 70 years. • FVRL Book Clubs: Second Tuesday of the month, 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and fourth Thursday of the month, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Join us to discuss books in a casual setting. New members are welcome. Books are provided.

• Supporting Family Resilience Group: Wednesdays, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Delta office - Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver-Fraser, 4871 Delta St.; The Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver-Fraser offers a no-cost support group for parents and caregivers of youth and young adults who are working through mental health and/or substance use concerns. • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Group: First Wednesday of every month, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; North Delta; Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver-Fraser offers an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) group for individuals with OCD and/or their friends and family. Our facilitated groups offer emotional and social support, encouragement and education in a confidential, non- judgmental setting. These groups are free and available to the public - no matter which city you live in. • LEGO® Club: Thursdays through June 22, July 6-Aug. 10, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Love LEGO®? We provide the LEGO®, you bring your imagination! Come play, create, and experiment. LEGO® Club is a fun afternoon program for kids. Children under five must be with an adult.

• Book Clubs: Fourth Thursday of the month, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Join us to discuss books in a casual setting. New members are welcome. Books are provided.

• Wind Down to Bedtime Storytime: Thursdays through June 29, 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Is your child ready for bed? Not until they wind down at storytime! Join us every Thursday night for specially chosen bedtime stories, breathing exercises, songs and some sleepy yoga poses. Wear your pajamas and bring your favourite stuffy.

• Mental Health Resiliency Support Group: Second and fourth Thursday of each month, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; South Delta; Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver-Fraser offers a mental health resiliency support group in South Delta for individuals living with a mental health concern or experiencing symptoms. • Knit & Stitch: Fridays through Aug. 25, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Pack up your needles and yarn and head to the library. Knitting, crocheting, quilting and weaving are fun ways to connect across the generations. Join members of all ages and abilities to share ideas, techniques and good conversation.

• Monthly Surrey Prostate Cancer Support Group Meeting: Last Saturday of every month, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14644 72nd Ave., Surrey; The Surrey PCSG provides awareness, public education, advocacy, support and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer for men in Delta, Surrey, White Rock and Langley. • Crossroads United Church Monthly Community Dinner: Fourth Saturday of every month, doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner starts at 5 p.m.; Crossroads United Church, 7655 120th St.; Crossroads United Church invites you to their monthly community dinner. Come and enjoy this free nutritious meal served in a casual, safe environment. It is a sit-down served meal and is open to anyone who would benefit from good food in a safe, family-friendly setting. • Canadian Federation of University Women, North Delta/Surrey: CFUW is a national non-partisan, voluntary, self-funded organization working to improve the status of women and to promote human rights, public education, social justice and peace. Every year, CFUW and its clubs award close to $1 million to women to help them pursue post-secondary studies and also provide funding for library and creative arts awards. CFUW clubs provide learning and fellowship through lecture series, book clubs and issues groups, work to prevent violence against women and child poverty, and promote early learning and child care.
