COMMUNITY EVENT

• Community Spring Cleanup Competition April 21st from 3:30-5:00. Delview Park, 9098 116 Street. Fun games and prizes as we clean up the neighbourhood around Delview Park! Bring friends and neighbours to this free event to win prizes in our free draw and the more you pick up the more entries your team/yourself gets in the draw! Meet in front of the park entrance so please come by for the event and if you have extra supplies such as garbage tongs gloves or bags please bring them however we have extras for whoever needs them.

FAMILY EVENTS

• Movie Night — Sonic 2:- Friday, (April 12) 6:00 p.m. Dungeons and Dragons:- Friday, (April 12) 8:20 p.m. $5 admission also includes popcorn; additional snacks and pop available for purchase at concession. North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84 Ave, Delta.

HELP FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADA

• Settlement Workers at Your Library Second and Fourth Tuesday of the month (April 9, 23) 2 p.m- 5 p.m. – George Mackie Library. Are you an international student, work permit holder, refugee, refugee claimant, permanent resident or a Canadian citizen who needs help adjusting to your new life? Do you need help accessing resources or finding the support you need to thrive in BC? Free and confidential services are offered to help newcomers and citizens – with all their needs – during the process of settling into their new community. Settlement workers from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. comes one the first Tuesday of the month and Settlement workers from PICS come on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. A Settlement Worker who speaks Dari/Pashto is at your library on the first Tuesday of the month (April 2, May 7), 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

MUSIC

• Delta Ukulele Circle: First Saturday of the month (April 6), 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Admission is $5. Doors open at 2 p.m, circle starts at 2:30 p.m. Register at cityofdelta.perfectmind.com. More information at deltaukes.com.

WRITING

• DLAS Writers’ Circles: First Wednesday of the month (April 3, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Delta Literary Arts Society is hosting free drop-in writers’ circles in Ladner and North Delta each month. • DLAS 2024 Poetry Contest: Deadline is over, but winners picked by judge Daniela Leza to be announced on April 20 at the society’s COMPOSED Festival of Poetry and Writing and on the DLAS website and Facebook page. Prizes include $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third, plus three runners up.

HOBBIES/CRAFTS

GAMES/TRIVIA

• Family Games Night: Last Thursday of the month (March 28), 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Kids, teens and young adults are invited to drop by for a night of board games. Join us in January to celebrate Family Literacy Week with literacy-related board games like Scrabble, Scattergories and more as a family.

KIDS/TEENS

• Babytime Mondays until April 29 (except April 1), 10:30 am - 11:00 am and Thursday until April 25, 10:30 am – 11 am– George Mackie Library 8440 112th St.;. Make language fun! Start early with Babytime. Help your baby develop speech and language skills. Enjoy bouncing, singing and rhyming with stories. Babytime is a fun, social bonding activity for babies and caregivers. • Unplugged (formerly Maker Mondays) Mondays until April 29 (except April 1), 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm – George Mackie Library 8440 112th St.; Drop in and let your imagination run full STEAM ahead with Maker Mondays! From art to tech projects and everything in between, we’ll design and make something new each session. Ages 6 – 11.

Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more. Storytime prepares children to learn to read. Suitable for ages 2 -6 years.

EASTER

• Easter at the Discovery Centre: Monday, April 1. This is no April fool’s joke. Join staff on April 1 between 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Discovery Centre for some FREE Easter family-fun with a themed craft, egg hunt, and gallery exploration! This is a drop-in event and parent participation required for children under the age of 7.

BOOK CLUBS

• ESOL Book Club: Wednesdays, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Join us and take part in an educational and fun weekly book club just for ESOL (English speaker of other language) speakers. Discuss a book together and learn new words and phrases to gain confidence in expressing yourself more accurately and precisely.

HEALTH/ WELLNESS

• Yin Yoga – Every Monday 6-7 p.m. The main goal of Yin Yoga is to open joints, stretch deep tissue and release deep, long held emotion. In Yin Yoga we learn how to better listen to our bodies, by allowing ourselves to slow down enough to listen to the clues from the unconscious mind of what is actually going on we learn everything we need to know. Note: You will want to have a few pillows (couch, bed or throw pillows will work fine), as well as a blanket or two to ensure you are nice and comfy as well as fully supported for your practice.

* Restorative Yoga – Every Wednesday 7:30-8:30 p.m. Restorative Yoga is designed to provide support and help the body relax. Often referred to as active relaxation we learn to fully support our physical bodies in order to allow for a gentle opening and softening in to relaxation.

• Hatha Yoga, Breath & Mindfulness Meditation – Every Thursday 9:30-10:30 A Whether you’re seeking stress relief, improved flexibility, or simply a moment of tranquility in your busy day and life, these classes will provide a nurturing space for you to unwind and connect with yourself from a space of kindness and compassion. CLUBS

• The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), the North Delta/Surrey chapter, will hold its annual book sale from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13 at Scottsdale Mall (7031 120 Street). A wide variety of donated books, both fiction and non fiction are offered for sale. Proceeds from the book sale provide annual bursaries to deserving female graduates of all five North Delta high schools, as well as a bursary to a female student from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Donations of books prior to the book sale are welcome (except text books, encyclopedias and National Geographic magazines).
