Several Islamic Relief Canada volunteers took part in a toy-wrapping drive in Surrey on June 17.

They gathered at the Beta Collective office in Whalley to wrap a few dozen gifts for distribution to kids from low-income, domestic violence, newcomer or refugee households.

The Surrey gathering, in partnership with Nisa Homes, was among similar events in 15 cities across Canada coinciding with Eid al-Adha, a Muslim holiday.

“Every child deserves an opportunity to experience the happiness of receiving a gift,” stated Mujahid Ahmed, the regional fundraising co-ordinator. “This toy drive is a small but meaningful way to make a positive impact in their lives and bring a little extra joy. We hope this initiative will offer a sense of hope and let them know they are not alone.”

According to a post on islamicreliefcanada.org, Islamic Relief Canada “works with communities to strengthen their resilience to calamities, and we provide vital emergency aid when disasters occur.

“We help the impoverished access basic services, including education, water and sanitation, as well as healthcare. We provide lasting routes out of poverty through our sustainable development schemes. Our integrated approach to progress is transforming communities worldwide.”
