South Delta crime beat, week of Nov. 14

A selection of property crimes submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

Ladner

• Nov. 6, DPD headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Cres.: Report received from the parent of the complainant that they had sent explicit images of themselves to an unknown person via Instagram and was now the victim of extortion. The complainant sent $150 to the suspect after being threatened with the images being sent to friends on social media. When further funds were requested, the complainant blocked and deleted all their accounts. Police advised the complainant to contact the website stopncii.org which will facilitate the removal of the images from the internet if posted.

• Nov. 8, 4200-block Tamboline Rd.: Complainant reported someone had broken into their Sea-Can container and stolen a hot plate and jacket. The complainant indicated the door had been left unlocked. The hot plate was later found in the bushes down the street. No witnesses or surveillance video.

• Nov. 8, 4500-block River Rd.: Complainant reported they left their bicycle locked outside their residence and sometime overnight the cable was cut and the bike was stolen. The bicycle is described as a black Norco woman’s Mountain bike with blue stripes, valued at $575. No surveillance video in the area.

• Nov. 9, 4800-block Harbour Stroll: Report received of a female going through a trailer. Police attended and met with the female, who indicated she was allowed to be there if she paid $200. Police, believing the suspect to have committed a theft, found a stolen wallet in her backpack. The suspect was arrested, processed and then released on an undertaking to appear in court on a later date.

• Nov. 11, 5200-block Ladner Trunk Rd.: A business reported a male had entered the store, selected a $100 bottle of Glenfiddich 14-year-old scotch, placed it down his shirt and left the store without payment. The suspect is described as South Asian, 30-34 years of age with a full beard, medium height and slim build, and wearing all black with white Nike high tops with purple and yellow trim. Still photographs of the suspect to be obtained from surveillance video for dissemination and possible identification.

Tsawwassen and Tsawwassen First Nation

• Nov. 8, 1100-block Ferry Causeway: Police responded to a report of a dispute among several people on the ferry causeway. All parties were under the influence of alcohol. The driver provided two breath samples with both reading “fail.” As a result they were given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

• Nov. 19, DPD headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Cres.: Complainant reported they had sent $1,230 to an unknown person for the purchase of Taylor Swift concert tickets but the tickets were never received. Communication was through Instagram, and the transaction was completed by an e-transfer through the complainant’s bank. The fraud has been reported to the bank, who advised the complainant they would attempt to retrieve the funds.

• Nov. 10, 4200-block Wolf Way: Complainant reported a package containing a Bluetti charging station, valued at $1,200, was stolen from the front of their residence. The delivery company indicated the package was signed for and delivered. Police contacted the delivery company, who advised they had opened an investigation to determine what had happened to the package.

• Nov. 10, 4900-block Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male had entered the store and stolen a $33 bottle of Alberta Pure vodka. The suspect is described as white with dark hair, wearing a large navy coat and dark sweatpants, and carrying a green Dollarama bag. Police attended and obtained still photographs of the suspect from surveillance video for dissemination and possible identification of the suspect.

• Nov. 11, 700-block 53rd St.: Report was received that the complainant had left their bicycle parked in the bike rack at the school — the bike was not locked — and when they returned later in the day the bike was gone. The bicycle is described as a $200 blue Supercycle road bike with a black seat cover, “529 Garage” sticker on the seat post, a white-water bottle holder and red tape on both handlebars.

• Nov. 11, 5100-block Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a female had stolen $300 worth of jewellery and fled the area on foot. The suspect is described as Caucasian, 45 years of age, 5’ 6” tall with dark long hair, wearing all black clothing and carrying a duffle bag. Police attended and conducted extensive patrols of the area with negative results.
