North Delta crime beat, week of Nov. 14

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

• Nov. 7, North Delta Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had received a phone call advising them a family member had been arrested and needed $6,700 to be bailed out of jail. Realizing the call to be a common scam, the complainant did not send any funds and reported the incident to police for information only.

• Nov. 8, Highway 99 and 80th Street Off Ramp: Complainant reported the theft of a flat deck trailer, which had been left in the area a couple of days earlier. Mapping indicated the trailer was now in Richmond. Police conducted surveillance in the area but were unable to locate the trailer. It is believed the GPS was likely removed at some point. Information regarding the trailer was added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

• Nov. 9, 7000-block 120th St.: A business reported a male had stolen $633 worth of baby food, cat food and meat earlier in the day. An attempt to follow the suspect was not successful. Photo of the suspect to be disseminated for possible identification.

• Nov. 10, North Delta Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported receiving a call from a person demanding a payment of $5,000 or else inappropriate fake photos would be posted to social media. The complainant, realizing the situation to be fraudulent, did not send any money and reported the incident to police for information only.

• Nov. 11, 9200-block 115A St.: Complainant reported their 1993 green Jeep Grand Cherokee had been stolen from the side road of a family member’s residence. The complainant had left the vehicle unlocked while they socialized inside. Approximately $2,000 worth of Milwaukee power tools in the vehicle were stolen. Calls to local tow truck companies proved negative. Vehicle has been added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.
