The North Delta Secondary Huskies strolled past the G.P. Vanier Towhees in their opening game at the BC Boys Basketball Championships.
The fourth seed Huskies were favoured team over the 13th ranked Towhees going into Wednesday night’s game, and NDSS’s impenetrable defence took advantage of their opponent’s sloppy play as they capitalized on turnovers to take an early lead in the first quarter.
The Towhees began to find their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, but shooting guard Suraj Gahir’s 11 points and the Huskies’ defence held off the push and gave NDSS a 45 - 21 lead at the end of the half.

Vanier could not regain their momentum in the second half and ultimately fell to the Huskies 67 - 42.
The 2018 tournament marks the first time in over a decade that a NDSS’ senior boys basketball team has made provincials, and 28 years since the last time they claimed the title, in 1990.
With last night’s win the Huskies advance to take on Richmond’s R.A. McMath Wildcats in the quarter finals. Tip off is at 6:45 p.m tonight at the Langley Events Centre.
