HOCKEY: North Delta’s Trevor Thurston, 15, signed by Kamloops Blazers

A ‘strong two-way defenseman,’ says Blazers GM Stu MacGregor

The Kamloops Blazers have announced the signing of defenseman Trevor Thurston to a WHL standard player agreement.

Thurston, 15, lives in North Delta and played minor hockey in the community before lacing up his skates for Delta Hockey Academy, based in South Delta.

On May 4, he was selected by the Blazers in the fourth round of the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, as the first defenseman selected by the team.

“Trevor is a strong two-way defenseman,” said Blazers GM Stu MacGregor.

“He is a competitive player who plays the game hard. We look forward to watching his progress over the upcoming season and welcome Trevor to our hockey club.”

In 20 games with Delta Hockey Academy’s Bantam Prep Green team, Thurston had nine goals, 11 assists and 20 points during the 2016-17 season.

He will continue to play at Delta Hockey Academy this coming season.

At eliteprospects.com, Thurston is listed as a six-foot, 154-pound D man.

In addition to Thurston, the Blazers have signed their top three selections from the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, after inking forward Josh Pillar and goaltender Dylan Garand.
