Hartley Ronald Duckhorn, of Surrey, is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, use of an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence, unlawful confinement, robbery, and uttering threats. Duckhorn was remanded in custody.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on July 10, police received a 911 call reporting that a woman had been “sexually assaulted in the area of King George SkyTrain station,” according to Surrey RCMP.

Police said the woman was walking under the Expo Line, toward Fraser Highway, at around 10:45 p.m. when a man approached her with a weapon.

A press release said the woman was robbed, pulled into some bushes and sexually assaulted.

“Following the assault, the male suspect fled the area, and the woman was able to obtain assistance and call for help,” the release reads.

Police had described the suspect as Caucasian, between 30 and 40 years old and five feet 10 inches tall, wearing a red and blue bandana on his face, with all black clothing. The RCMP added the victim had “minor injuries” from the incident and that she was taken to hospital.

“This unacceptable attack on a woman in our community was very concerning for police and for the greater community,” said Staff Sergeant Lyndsay O’Ruairc, Vulnerable Persons Section Commander.

“Our Special Victims Unit worked rigorously with multiple other Surrey RCMP Units to identify this suspect. We hope the community feels some reassurance with his arrest and charges.”
