10:09 p.m.
One poll left to come in, but the results of tonight’s election aren’t likely to change much. Former city manager George Harvie will be Delta’s next mayor, with 11,983 votes (39.58 per cent).
Council is pretty much set as well, with Alicia Guichon, Lois Jackson, Dan Copeland, Jeannie Kanakos, Bruce McDonald and Dylan Kruger.
School board chair Laura Dixon is leading the polls with 14,683 votes (9.89 per cent). Rounding out the leaders are Nick Kanakos, Daniel Boisvert, Erica Beard, Val Windsor and Jessie Dosanjh.
9:56 p.m.
With 30 of Delta’s 33 polls now counted, Harvie continues to be in the lead for mayor, with 39.2 per cent of the vote.
Former police chief Jim Cessford had the second-most votes for mayor, but now trails nearly five points behind Harvie.
“We would have liked to have won,” Cessford said as he was leaving the council chambers. “We had a really, really good team. But the people have spoken and they have picked the people that they would like to lead them for the next four years.
“I always said I would listen to the public, and I have heard what the public have had to say.”
Council candidates are staying strong with Alicia Guichon, Lois Jackson, Dan Copeland, Jeannie Kanakos, Bruce McDonald and Dylan Kruger. School board trustees are also the same with Laura Dixon, Nick Kanakos, Daniel Boisvert, Erica Beard, Val Windsor, Bruce Reid and Jesse Dosanjh.
9:46 p.m.
With all Ladner’s polls now in, and half of North Delta’s, Delta’s future council and school board is remaining consistent.
Some candidates and onlookers are leaving the council chambers, where many are watching the results come in. Some residents are saying the race is called in favour of George Harvie; however, there are still 10 polls left to come in.
9:36 p.m.
North Deltans are showing strong support for mayoral candidate George Harvie, with each of the five counted polling stations seeing him get more than 40 per cent of the vote.
Now with 21 of 33 polls counted, the only change is Jesse Dosanjh once again kicking Dale Saip out of the top seven school board trustee spots.
9:32 p.m.
With half of Delta’s polls now counted, results are staying pretty consistent.
George Harvie is still in the lead for mayor, with 37.1 per cent of the vote. Jim Cessford remains close behind with 34.7 per cent of the vote.
Council candidates remain the same, with Alicia Guichon still holding a strong lead with 11.3 per cent of the vote. Jeannie Kankos, Dan Copeland, Lois Jackson, Bruce McDonald and Dylan Kruger currently make up the rest of the six council spots.
School board trustee candidates are also staying the coure, although Dale Saip continues to play voting tug-of-war with Jesse Dosanjh. Currently, Laura Dixon, Nick Kanakos, Daniel Boisvert, Erica Beard, Val Windsor, Bruce Reid and Dale Saip make up the top seven spots.
Although only half the polls are in, Delta has already counted votes from 21 per cent of its registered voters, which could indicated a better than usual voter turnout.
9:20 p.m.
The first North Delta poll is in, although it hasn’t changed much for the status of the candidates.
George Harvie remains the top choice, and actually received over 40 per cent of the North Delta vote at Gibson Elementary. Lois Jackson received the most votes of any candidate by voters at Gibson, although the total standing for council candidates remains the same.
The most recent poll has put Jessie Dosanjh back in the top seven for school board trustee candidates, booting out Dale Saip. That could change easily however, as there is difference of 0.1 percentage points between them.
9:15 p.m.
A third of Delta’s ballots have been counted, and mayoral candidate George Harvie remains in the lead with 37.7 per cent of the popular vote.
Jim Cessford continues to close the gap with Harvie, now with just over three percentage points between them.
Council candidates are staying steady with Alicia Guichon (11.3 per cent), Jeannie Kanakos (8.5 per cent), Dan Copeland (8.4 per cent), Lois Jackson (8.2 per cent), Bruce McDonald (8.1 per cent) and Dylan Kruger (6.3 per cent).
School board trustee candidates have shifted slightly, with incumbent trustee Dale Saip making it back onto the top seven. Currently, the most votes are for Laura Dixon, Nick Kanakos, Daniel Boisvert, Erica Beard, Val Windsor, Bruce Reid and Dale Saip.
9:05 p.m.
With two general voting stations from Ladner, one from Tsawwassen and one special poll now counted, George Harvie remains in the lead for mayor.
The votes between Harvie and Jim Cessford continues to decrease, although Harvie still has a five-point lead. Sylvia Bishop remains in third, with around 25 per cent of the vote, while Moneca Kolvyn moves forward with more than one per cent of the vote. Vytas Vaitkus and Alex Megalos continue to trail with less than one per cent.
Council candidates remain the same, although Jeannie Kanakos moved up in the polls to take over the second spot from Lois Jackson. Jackson has now moved down to the fourth spot, while Dan Copeland remains with the third most votes.
School board candidates continue to stay the same, with slight changes internally: Laura Dixon, Nick Kanakos, Daniel Boisvert, Erica Beard, Val Windsor, Bruce Reid and Jessie Dosajh.
8:52 p.m.
The first of the general votes from Ladner have been counted, with six of the total 33 polls coming in.
Mayoral candidate George Harvie is still in the lead, but now with less than 40 per cent of the general vote. Jim Cessford and Sylvia Bishop still follow closely behind, with 32.7 and 25.6 per cent of the vote respectively.
The council candidates remain almost the same, with Alicia Guichon, Lois Jackson, Dan Copeland, Jeannie Kanakos and Bruce McDonald taking the top five. However, now Achieving for Delta candidate Dylan Kruger has ousted his slate-mate Param Grewal, with Kruger’s 6.4 per cent to Grewal’s 6.1 per cent.
School board trustees remain the same, however, Nick Kanakos has overtaken Daniel Boisvert for the trustee with the second-most votes.
8:30 p.m.
All advanced polls have now been counted.
Achieving for Delta candidate George Harvie is leading with 41.4 per cent of the advanced vote, followed by Independents Working for You candidate Jim Cessford (29.8 per cent), Team Delta’s Sylvia Bishop (27.3 per cent), Moneca Kolvyn (0.7 per cent), Alex Megalos (o.4 per cent) and Vytas Vaitkus (0.3 per cent).
The top six council candidates so far are Alicia Guichon (10.2 per cent), Lois Jackson (9 per cent), Dan Copeland (8.8 per cent), Jeannie Kanakos (8 per cent), Bruce McDonald (7.5 per cent) and Param Grewal (6.4 per cent).
The top seven school board trustee candidates currently are Laura Dixon (10.3 per cent), Daniel Boisvert (9.7 per cent), Nick Kanakos (9.5 per cent), Erica Beard (8.9 per cent), Jessie Dosajh (8 per cent), Val Windsor (7.4 per cent) and Bruce Reid (6.9 per cent).
