Married for more than 70 years, Delta’s Lloyd and Kae Jones shared both a deep love for their community and the belief that Delta deserved access to the best healthcare that was also easily accessible.
The two gave back every chance they had, volunteering and donating annually for 22 years to Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. And when the two were spending their final days together at Mountain View Manor in Delta, son Neil was grateful to have them just minutes away.
“Being able to visit your loved one in your own community, to see them receiving such excellent care and know that they are safe, that is so comforting,” he says.
Today, as the number of Delta’s older adults is poised to soar, the community aims to welcome the next step in senior care.
Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation is partnering with Fraser Health to deliver a new, state-of-the-art, 200-bed, long-term care community for Delta’s seniors – the hospital’s largest infrastructure investment since 1980.
“Mountain View Manor, our current long-term care facility, is filled with dedicated staff who go above and beyond for our loved ones. However, this facility was built 45 years ago and in that time, the model for long term care has evolved. We need to meet that change,” says Foundation Executive Director Lisa Hoglund.
Thanks to the foundation’s Coming Home campaign, and the community’s generosity, the new residence will embrace resident and family-centred care principles, implementing best practices and innovative care models from around the world.
“This innovative, new long-term care home will be a place for purposeful living. A place that honours every story. A place that keeps our loved ones in our community, close to us. A place that truly feels like coming home,” Hoglund says.
