Surrey council awards $4 million road-paving contract

This is for road paving at seven locations in North Surrey and one in South Surrey

Surrey council awarded a contract of nearly $4 million for BA Blacktop Ltd. on Monday, Feb. 26 for road paving at seven locations in North Surrey and one in South Surrey.

The contract is for $3,975,827.08 with a spending limit of $4,380,000, recommended by Surrey’s general manager of engineering Scott Neuman in a corporate report that came before council.

The job includes repaving 1.9 lane kilometres related to the Major Road Network (MRN), 9.7 lane kilometres of arterial road and 8.8 lane kilometres of collector roads “to maintain a state of good repair,” Neuman reported.

In North Surrey, arterial paving will be done on 88 Avenue between 144 Street and 146 Street, on 80 Avenue from the 17800 block to 184 Street, on 72 Avenue from 184 Street to 188 Street, on Colebrook Road from 164 Street to 168 Street, and arterial paving in South Surrey on 192 Street from 20 Avenue to 24 Avenue.

Collector road paving will be done on 108 Avenue between 156 Street and 162 Street, on 188 Street between 80 Avenue and Harvie Road, and on 76 Avenue from 188 Street to 194 Street.

The work is expected to begin in April and be completed by August, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, including night paving “in some locations to avoid major traffic congestions.”

Tenders were opened on February 14.
