A mix of rain and snow is expected to hit the Lower Mainland early this week.

According to a special weather statement from Environment Canada, a “wintry mix of precipitation” is expected for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley from Tuesday evening (Feb. 27) through Wednesday (Feb. 28).

“With a warming southwesterly flow aloft, snow levels will rise overnight resulting in mixed precipitation changing to moderate to heavy rain late Tuesday night or early Wednesday,” the statement reads.

Environment Canada says snowfall accumulations will vary depending on elevation and proximity to water. The Fraser Valley can expect a risk of freezing rain between late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

The wintry weather could also have an impact on the Tuesday evening commute. The snow and rain are expected to ease across the region late Wednesday.
