A dozen guest speakers have been named for the next TEDxSurrey, Jan. 20 at Bell Performing Arts Centre.
Tickets for the 2024 event are sold starting Nov. 1 on tedxsurrey.ca, with a month-long “early bird” special rate for premium seats ($79, down from $99).
The 12 selected speakers will be joined by entertainers and more for the sixth edition of TEDxSurrey, curated by Alan Warburton as a daylong “Shift in Thinking” gathering in the theatre at Sullivan Heights Secondary.
“Your ticket includes a delicious lunch, treats and refreshments, dynamic entertainment and energizers as well as a speaker’s corner, a bookstore, partner recognition tables and terrific prizes,” promises the event website, where the speaker biographers are posted.
In 18 minutes or less they’ll showcase “ideas from various areas of human endeavor,” including science, technology, art, music, design, human rights, law, business, current events, issues, personal growth and development.
The 2024 list of speakers includes Andrea Neil (past captain and coach of Canada’s World Cup women’s soccer team), Dr. Andrew Miki (registered psychologist and the founder and Chief Science Officer of Starling), TJ Dawe (Canadian playwright and director) and Carla Pelligrini (executive director at Food Stash Foundation).
The eight others are Alexandra Stevenson (co-founder of an anti-human-trafficking nonprofit), Aminullah Shirazi (Grade 10 French Immersion student at Panorama Ridge Secondary), David Norwell (author of “A Complex Coast: A Kayak Journey from Vancouver Island to Alaska”), Chelsea Minhas (Covenant House Vancouver’s Chief Program Officer), Josh Green (actor, comedian, business venturist), Michael Timms (mountain climber, author of “How Leaders Can Inspire Accountability”), Mollie Kaye (stage performer, promotions consultant) and Pamela Dangelmaier (mindfulness practitioner, life coach).
Prior to 2021 the event was known as TEDxBearCreekPark. In 2022, a partnership with Surrey School District welcomed students among the featured speakers.
