Last year’s White Rock Farmers’ Market boosted the local economy by more than $5 million, according to a “groundbreaking” study conducted by the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets.
Shared earlier this month, the study also named $3.55 million in direct sales, as well as a total of 81,600 shoppers during the season as among “impressive” highlights out of the White Rock market.

Across the province, direct sales at B.C.’s markets contributed to an overall economic impact of $233 million.
“The results of this project show that farmers markets in B.C. have grown over the past decade, despite unprecedented social, political, and economic challenges, including the COVID-19 global pandemic,” a news release from the provincial association states.
Other highlights for White Rock include that the average shopper spent $43.37 per visit to the market, and 51 per cent of those surveyed visit it either almost weekly, or two to three times per month.
The market opens for the 2024 season on April 21, at Miramar Plaza (15154 Russell Ave.). Hours are from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. on Sundays, through till Oct. 13. For more information, visit whiterockfarmersmarket.ca
