• End the Stigma Community Forum: April 13, 6:30 to 8 p.m.; North Delta Secondary School, 11447 82nd Ave.; With opioid crisis continuing to claim lives here in Delta, the City of Delta, Delta Police Department, Tsawwassen First Nation, Delta School District, Fraser Health Authority and Delta Fire Department are collaborating to bring together this community discussion on navigating the opioid crisis as a family member, opioid user or community partner. Hear featured speakers Curtis Joe, (youth worker/advocate with the Delta School District), Dr. Maulik Baxi (B.C. medical health officer) and Guy Felicella (peer clinical advisor), as well as a panel discussion with the speakers and panelists Katie Alexander (manager, TFN Health and Social Services), Kirsten Hermanson (manager of prevention and wellness, Delta School District), Jackie Just (mental wellness public health nurse, Fraser Health) and Kam Singh (substance use counselor, Mukti Society) and facilitator DPD Chief Neil Dubord. Mayor George Harvie will provide opening remarks. There will also be a Q&A session, naloxone training, and exhibitors who provide crisis, addiction and counselling services in Delta and TFN, including The Little House Society, Deltassist, Fraser Health and the Lookout Society. • 2022 Delta Youth Leadership Conference: April 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Seaquam Secondary, 11584 Lyon Rd.; Hosted by the Delta Police Department and Delta School District. Attention Delta Students! Come join us at the 3rd Annual Youth Leadership Conference. We have a full day lined up with some incredible speakers in the morning — award-winning entrepreneur and author Kendal Netmaker, and bestselling author, personal development coach and Champion UP founder Adrian Starks — followed by breakout sessions in the afternoon. The day will start with DJ Baron S (the first female DJ for the Vancouver Canucks), students will have the opportunity to win door prizes, and there will be free lunch provided. • Among Us — Teen Games Hang Out: March 18, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Come hang out for an afternoon of tasks and traitors. Launch into space with your fellow crew mates and help sniff out the impostors. Play Among Us with teens from across the Fraser Valley (ages 13-18). • Geohazards For Kids: April 22, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. FVRL is excited to welcome Eryne and Ryan from Statlu Environmental Consulting for this special Earth Day presentation. Geohazards For Kid will start off with an explanation of geohazards before discussing climate, weather and climate change, then we’ll synthesize our new information with a discussion about the atmospheric rivers we experienced on Nov. 15 and 16, 2021. • Intro to Baby Signing: March 23, 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Want to sign with your little one, but don’t know where to begin? Join us for Intro to Baby Signing! Signing is a great way to develop speech and support communication before children become vocal. • Planning for Post-Secondary with Credit Counselling Society: March 29, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Post-secondary education is an important part of creating your teen’s future; it enhances thinking and social skills and increases employability and income-earning potential. However, the post-secondary system is vast and complex. Navigating the system requires clear goals and significant planning. In this workshop/webinar, you will learn how to identify opportunities to discuss money with your teenager, identify the costs for post secondary education beyond tuition and books, recognize the resources available to your teenager, distinguish between conventional “student” funding and different types of student loans, identify different ways to help pay for school including Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs) and employment, and identify the pointers and pitfalls that students can encounter when planning for and attending post-secondary school. This interactive and fun workshop will last 90 minutes or one hour in a webinar format. We take a “grab-and-go” approach — grab an idea or two and go try it. • Seniors Weekly Golf: Mondays and Tuesday, starting March 28/29, 8 a.m.; Sunshine Woods Golf Centre, 10646 64th Ave.; Seniors weekly golf registration and play begins at 8 a.m. on Monday March 28 and Tuesday March 29 at Sunshine Woods Golf Centre in Delta. All seniors, ladies and men, 60 and older are welcome. The $10 registration fee covers tournament prizes and handicap maintenance for the season but does not include green fees. Seniors First BC presents an informative overview of numerous federal and provincial government benefits for seniors, including Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Fair Pharmacare, BC Senior Supplement, and Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER). • InkWellTold — Writing Beyond the Page: Bi-monthly starting March 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave.; In partnership with Delta Literary Arts Society, InkWellTold is a bi-monthly reading in conversation series. Each evening will feature two readers and a Q&A session. Open to all ages. Admission is free at the door.

• ‘Let’s Get Factual’ Non-fiction Book Club: Last Tuesday of the month (March 29), 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Is fact really stranger than fiction? Join Let’s Get Factual, our virtual non-fiction book club, and find out. The club meets on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss an interesting non-fiction title. • CFUW Book Sale: April 6-9; Scottsdale Centre, 7031 120th Street; The Canadian Federation of University Women North Delta/Surrey chapter’s annual book sale raises funds to provide bursaries to the five secondary schools in North Delta secondary schools (Delview, Burnsview, North Delta, Sands and Seaquam) and also a bursary for Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Donations of books covering a wide range of subject matter — best-sellers, classics, Canadiana, nature, biography, self help, cook books, hobbies and children’s literature, just to name a few — come from the public and are collected in the months leading up to the annual book sale. Both hardcover and softcover books generally sell for $2 each. Unsold books are donated to Write to Read, which provides books for under-served First Nations communities, and to local thrift stores. • Virtual Author Visit — Ashley Spires: April 7 and 8, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. For Humour Month, FVRL is very excited to present Ashley Spires, who will discuss how making mistakes and trying over and over again is part of the process of making funny books for kids. Spires is the author and illustrator of numerous award-winning children’s books and has created many beloved characters, including Small Saul, Esther the fairy scientist, Burt The Beetle and Binky The Space Cat, who is now featured in his own animated television series. • UNBOUND Poetry Festival: April 9, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave.; The Delta Literary Arts Society and the City of Delta are hosting the inaugural UNBOUND poetry festival showcasing the talents of many local poets, writers and artists through a variety of workshops and performances. Free all-day events to include a poetry films viewing gallery, an interactive blackout/found/magnetic poetry area, a demonstration of art inspired by poetry, “reading-in-conversation” sessions in the theatre, poetry installations, a haiku contest, publishers and booksellers in the upstairs foyer, a silent Auction, concession and an evening poetry slam. ENVIRONMENT

• Disaster in the Valley — Floods, Landslides and Atmospheric Rivers: April 20, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. FVRL is excited to welcome Dr. Drew Brayshaw of Statlu Environmental Consulting, a Chilliwack-based firm specializing in hydrology and environmental geoscience. The presentation will be focused on the effects of the atmospheric river storms we experienced in November 2021, with a brief explanation of atmospheric rivers and why these ones were so damaging. The presentation will include some images of Sumas flooding and landslides in the Chilliwack River Valley. It will also include some general descriptions of ways to avoid exposure to these hazards. Discover how to unscramble cuber secrets of puzzle solving. Perfect for beginners and experienced cubers looking to take their skills to the next level. In this presentation, local speed cubers Scout Harris and Vianne Chang will introduce the techniques cubers, both beginners and beyond, use to solve the 3×3 Rubik’s cube. • Free Yoga Classes: various days and times; via Zoom; Deltassist is now offering five free online yoga classes each week. Registration is ongoing and you can enjoy the classes from the comfort of your home. The Yoga for Stress Relief program runs Mondays from 6-7 p.m. (Yin Yoga), Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. (Restorative Yoga) and Fridays from 10-11 a.m. (Hatha Yoga). • From Safety to Self-Compassion: Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Deltassist, North Delta office, 9097 120th St.; This group is for women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The group will create a safe environment for you to give voice to your story and feel validated. You will be encouraged to create your own internal and external safety. The group will cover topics like establishing boundaries, consolidating a sense of self, reflecting on the journey and cultivating a future from here on.
