Surrey-based Royal Canadian Theatre Company is back on stage for a final time this season with “Cheaters,” a rom-com that opens a weekend run Friday, March 15, in the Studio Theatre at Surrey Arts Centre.

Michael Jacobs’ “whirlwind, wacky and witty” script involves Allen and Michelle, a couple meeting their parents for advice regarding whether they should marry or not.

Billed as “an oddball story of love and re-connection where no one can hide from the truth,” the show features “a hilarious and energetic cast with many raunchy jokes, innuendos and hope for these lovable characters,” according to Crystal Weltzin, RCTC’s general manager.

“What advice can be given to these nearly-weds by participants in dysfunctional marriages, and how do these two married couples cope with discovering the parent of their child’s spouse is actually their lover?”

Amanda Haggett directs a cast of six including Tina Teeninga (as Monica), Dean Dawson (Howard), Charlene Crawford (Grace), Colin R. Mah (Sam), Juliet Logan (Michelle) and Aryan Verma (Allen).

“Cheaters” is staged at Surrey Arts Centre from March 15-17, with show times at 2 and 7:30 p.m., followed by dates at Anvil Theatre in New Westminster, March 21-24.

During an opening-night reception March 15 in Surrey, the theatre company will announce its next season of plays and give out cupcakes to all guests. Also planned is a “relaxed performance” March 21 in New West, in partnership with the Massey Theatre Society.

Others involved in the show are Kerri Norris (artistic director), Stephanie Bruce (technical director/sound), Tiffany Kanda (stage manager), Nigel Brooke (lighting design), Patricia Brooke (costume design), Jordan Ravensburgen (prop design) and Crystal Bunch (production manager, marketing).

Tickets for the Surrey dates are available on tickets.surrey.ca, or call 604-501-5566. Additional show details are posted on rctheatreco.com, including ticket prices for singles, families and larger groups.
