Organizers behind White Rock’s 1st Annual Punch Out Parkinson’s Walk say the “amazing” event will almost certainly be making a comeback in 2025.

“We’re planning on doing the same every year,” Frankie LaSasso said, of the fundraiser that drew dozens of people to the waterfront on Sunday (April 28), despite inclement weather.

“We got 100 strong. The beach was so quiet, but everybody still showed up for the walk. It was a great turnout.”

Beginning and ending at Memorial Park, participants paced one of two distances for the cause: supporting a dedicated wellness centre for people living with Parkinson’s.

Just over $17,000 has been raised so far towards a $50,000 goal.

LaSasso — who has been offering boxing training for those with Parkinson’s for nearly a decade — said the best part of the event was the camaraderie amongst walkers, each of whom had a connection through the Punch Out Parkinson’s (POP) program that he founded.

He hopes to double the turnout next year — and that the weather will co-operate.

Upcoming events for POP include the opening of the wellness centre — hoped to happen by June 1 — as well as the 2nd Annual Guns and Hoses gala, set for Oct. 25 at the Aria Banquet & Convention Centre (12350 Pattullo Pl.). Gala tickets ($150) are available at www.punchoutparkinsons.ca

LaSasso is already pumped for the soirée, which he described as “one of the greatest shows anybody could ever go to.”

Featuring first responders punching it out to help raise awareness and funds, “it’s very entertaining and it’s a lot of fun … a really nice event,” LaSasso said.
