Surrey Urban Farmers Market launched its third summer at Royal Kwantlen Park on Saturday (June 3).
Weekly until October, with a goal of “building community through local food,” the market will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays in the parking lot at the corner of 104 Avenue and Old Yale Road.
The market aims to feature fresh produce, gourmet treats, local artisans, live entertainment and booths for community groups.
On opening day for 2023, Samatha Dean sold her paintings and handmade items.
The 20-year-old Cloverdale resident started painting six years ago as a hobby. Three years ago, she turned that hobby into a small business and has been selling her art and jewelry at markets ever since.
Sher Vancouver, a local LGBTQ+ non-profit, was set up at the market for the first time to provide individuals with resources and promote their work.
