It was announced today that the Delta Fire & Emergency Services and the City of Delta are deeply saddened about the passing of Firefighter Marc Jubinville.
The Delta firefighter was identified as the person killed when a vehicle fell from the UBC parkade.
A news release, issued on Jan. 19 by Delta Fire & Emergency Services, stated, “It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of our own. He served our community with an unwavering commitment to protecting lives and keeping everyone safe.
He not only possessed the skills and bravery of a first responder, but his presence and comradery made him a source of comfort with many on the Delta Fire team.
In this difficult time, my thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues. We are honoured to have known him and remember all that he has accomplished with Delta Fire.
Flags at City Hall, Fire Halls, and Delta facilities will be lowered to half-mast. Marc will forever be a member of the Delta Fire family.” said Chief Guy McKintuck, in a statement.
Many have voiced their deepest condolences, adding that he was a much respected and loved member of the community, particularly in his role as Delta Fire’s community liaison. Delta Police; local residents and North Delta Blockwatch Community shared their thoughts as well. “He was a great guy to work with and he really worked hard at educating the community,” Heinz Kreutz, of Blockwatch added.
Delta Mayor George Harvie in a news statement, said, “As Mayor, on behalf of Delta Council, I am deeply saddened to be informed of the tragic passing of a dedicated member of Delta Fire, Marc Jubinville.
Marc’s exceptional service and bravery in protecting our community are commendable, and his unexpected passing is a profound tragedy not just for Delta Fire, but for our entire community.
In these difficult times, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and all his colleagues at Delta Fire. Let us come together to honour and remember Firefighter Jubinville’s selfless dedication and bravery.”
