North Delta crime beat, week of Nov. 20

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

• Nov. 15, 11700-block 89A Ave.: Complainant reported they had left their vehicle unlocked and sometime overnight it was entered and $20 in small change missing. Nothing else was stolen and no surveillance video available. Police provided complainant with a file number for insurance purposes.

• Nov. 15, 11800-block 72nd Ave.: Complainant reported a break-and-enter of their residence. The entry point to the residence was through a sliding glass door which had likely been left unlocked. Identification services attended to process the scene for possible fingerprints. Complainant was to provide police with a list of stolen items.

• Nov. 16, North Delta Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had made a $300 e-transfer for a couch they purchased on Facebook Marketplace before they realized they had been the victim of fraud. The fraud has been reported to Facebook. Police educated the complainant on the sophistication of scams occurring daily and advised the complainant to contact their bank.

• Nov. 17, 8300-block Delsom Way: Complainant reported someone had entered their building and stolen a parcel containing makeup products valued at $75. Surveillance video indicates the suspect is a South Asian male, 30 years of age, with black hair and beard and carrying a green backpack. Police to continue investigation upon review of the still photos.

• Nov. 18, 9500-block 115A St.: Complainant reported the theft of the catalytic converter from their vehicle parked in the driveway. There was surveillance video available but it was not suitable for identification of the suspect. A file number was provided for an insurance claim.

• Nov. 19, 12300-block 64th Ave.: Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that didn’t have its lights on. There was a distinct odour of liquor emanating from the driver, and breath samples were requested. Two samples provided by the driver both read “fail.” Consequently, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
