Robin Marie Pugsley, a teacher at Seaquam High School, was well known for her love of teaching and sports. Her friends valued her for her spirit, kindness, and encouragement to many.

Her passion inspired all to develop their full potential. Robin’s legacy as a leader, coach, and teacher in the North Delta community inspired the staff at Seaquam to establish a scholarship in Robin’s honour.

In North Delta, particularly the Sunshine Hills community, her involvement with ringette and hockey as a leader/helper in Girl Guides, gained her reputation as an excellent teacher, mentor and friend.

Shannon Miller, a co-worker, and life skills teacher at Seaquam, became close friends with Robin and shared that she inspired her students to set goals that she was always willing to help them achieve. “She created numerous videos and resources for her students and all the parents who struggled to help their kids with math. Robin joined committees, helped organize fundraisers, donated her time to ensure each year’s grads had a fantastic experience on the red carpet, and was always available to help whether asked or not.”

Another close friend, Julie Ekholm, said, “The first time I met Robin was at an ice rink. My daughter had been playing ringette for two years, and we hoped she would be on a team with a particular friend. She didn’t end up on that team, but the other team was sold to me as being great because this new coach who had even played Ringette had a daughter starting to play and was going to coach. That coach was Robin.

Robin was not only my daughter’s coach that year, but she also became a friend. She was no ordinary coach. Robin was always striving for them to become better players, and she had excellent game skills.”

As a hockey mom, she inspired other parents with her energy and calming force. Shannon shared that although Robin juggled coaching her daughter Rachael, she also tried to make as many of her son Kyle’s hockey games as possible. “I still hear her yelling, “Way to go, buddy!” whenever Kyle makes a great play or scored.” she said.

Shannon added, “The staff at Seaquam loved Robin and her dedication to others, so we have set up “The Robin Pugsley Staff Scholarship” to give scholarships to deserving Grade 12 students who embody a passion for learning math and a fierce, competitive love of sports, just as Robin did.”
