A free event to help connect those who are looking to lend a hand with groups and organizations that are looking for some extra help is set for April 21 at the White Rock Community Centre.

Hosted by the City of White Rock, the Volunteer Fair is to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Discover a new passion, connect with local service organizations, and invest your skills and talent in the community,” a news release issued by the city states.

A bevy of groups and organizations will be exhibiting, covering everything from literacy programs and social services, to fundraising, helping animals and more.

Mayor Megan Knight described volunteering as “a wonderful way to give back to the community, build connections, and make a difference.”

The event is being held in recognition of National Volunteer Week – April 14-20 – which aims to recognize and celebrate individuals who “strengthen inclusivity and well-being in our communities.”

The theme this year, according to volunteer.ca, is Every Moment Matters.

“It highlights the importance of every volunteer and each contribution they make at a moment when we need support more than ever,” information on the website continues.

“The sharing of time, skills, empathy, and creativity is vital to the inclusivity, strength, and well-being of our communities.

“By coming together, committing support, and increasing our collective efforts and impact, we contribute exponentially to the quality of life we all strive for.”

The White Rock Community Centre is located at 15154 Russell Ave.
