A spring shredding event that just marked its 12th year of raising funds for Sources’ White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank has added more than $8,000 to the pot.
With Surrey firefighters on hand to help, some 12,000 pounds of sensitive documents were securely shredded on April 6, in the parking lot of Semiahmoo Shopping Centre in South Surrey.
“We raised $8,084 plus 160 pounds of food for this important, local charity that supports food security needs,” shopping centre marketing director Jeri Cox told Peace Arch News.
“This brings the total raised from shredding events at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre for the Sources Food Bank to more than $93,000 since we began this event 12 years ago.”

Cox noted the volume shredded was the equivalent of saving 104 mature trees. She thanked Shredwise and Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society volunteers for helping make the by-donation event a success.
