Residents, organizations and business are encouraged to beautify their home and gardens for a chance to win prizes.

Esquimalt is ready to blossom in the Bloomin' Beautiful Home and Garden Contest.

Residents, organizations and business are encouraged to beautify their home and gardens for a chance to win prizes.

The contest first took root in 2012 with 20 submissions. This year more than 100 entries are expected, says Christina Moog, Esquimalt recreation co-ordinator.

This year there are six categories: Best large garden (minimum 300 square feet), best small garden, best environmental practices, best curb appeal, and two new categories for best artistic garden and people choice garden.

"People are proud to live in Esquimalt," says Moog, "and the garden contest is another indication of that.

"People challenge each other in the contest and businesses rally behind the it."

Entry forms are available from April 8 to May 19 at Esquimalt Municipal Hall, Esquimalt Recreation Centre, Archie Browning Sports Centre or online at esquimalt.ca, Esquimalt .

The contest judging takes place from May 26 to June 6.

A special awards evening is planned for June 25.
