The Surrey United women's soccer team finished third in Jubilee division competition at the 2024 Toyota National Championships, played at Newton Athletic Park on Thanksgiving weekend.
The Jubilee crown went to Quebec's CS Trident Ancienne-Lorette, who won their first national amateur title Monday (Oct. 14) with a 3-1 win in penalties over B.C.-based Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC at the park in Surrey.
Earlier that rainy day, Surrey United scored bronze in the six-team tournament with a 2-0 win over Holy Cross FC of St. John's.
In the men's competition at Newton Athletic Park, the tournament's Challenge trophy went to Ottawa's Gloucester Celtic FC for the third time in 12 years. Joey Kewin was the hero after he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Nova Scotia's Suburban FC.
Meantime, on the opposite side of the country in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Surrey BC Tigers finished seventh at the U-17 Cup among boys teams at the Toyota National Championships.
The Tigers won their first game 4-0 over Conception Bay South but lost their next three games to finish fourth in Group A of the 10-team tournament. On Thanksgiving Monday the Tigers beat Fredericton DSA 6-1 in the match for seventh place.
