Delta man scoops up Low Net honours!

Battling the first rain in the area for three months on day one of the Sept. 8-10 Autumn Leaves Tournament followed by sunny skies for the second round, Ben Zerdin beat out a field of 76 golfers to capture the 2017 Men’s Open title with a 36-hole gross score of 145. Hot on his heels were Dean Godel, Chad Erickson, Norn Jarvis who just couldn’t catch up to Zerdin and his stellar play.

The low net champion was Brian Hanson of Delta with a two-day net total of 132 with several golfers within striking distance but who just couldn’t wrestle the title away from Hanson.

The participants endured and persevered through fairly steady rains on Saturday, Sept. 9 which contributed to some slightly higher scores but they made up for it on Sunday, Sept. 10, under sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. The golf course played nicely according to the golfers and the grass was just lapping up that rain on Saturday.

Low gross flight winners were: first – Dean Godel of Delta; second – Joe Zerdin of Surrey; third – Steve Romano of Chilliwack; and fourth – Ryan Erickson of Hope.

Low net flight winners were: first – Dean Totten of Sechelt; second – Joel Siebenga of Delta; third – Casy Brown of New Westminster; and fourth – Lou Kraszlany of Hope.

Some stellar scores from some of the participants were recorded including a final nine holes score of 30 — six under par — by home-grown golfer Chad Erickson.

Bonnie and Vince Cianfagna, owners of BPS Inc. and operators of the Hope Golf and Country Club would like to thank the participants, their amazing staff at the golf course and the many volunteers whose efforts made this such a successful event. Next year’s event will take place on Sept. 15 and 16.
