Hankering for a good ol’ hot dog at the ball park?
There’s plenty of chances for baseball enthusiasts to do both June 5-9 at three ballparks throughout the Lower Mainland, including South Surrey, which is co-hosting the Langley Blaze Invitational tournament.
Featuring 21 teams from across the province and country, the British Columbia Premier Baseball League competition starts Wednesday (June 5), with games scheduled for South Surrey Athletic Park on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (June 6-8).
“It’s one of the marquee tournaments that we’ll have this year,” said White Rock Tritons general manager and junior team coach Jordan Broatch.
Many of the teams are from B.C., with some from Western Canada as well, he said. The White Rock Senior U18 Tritons are playing in the competition as well.

“Sunday – championship day – will be held out in Langley.”
Games will be played at Abbotsford’s Delair Park and Langley’s MacLeod Park, as well as in South Surrey, throughout the tournament.
“There’s going to be some of the best teams in Western Canada … a lot of colleges, a lot of pro scouts – it’s fantastic across the board. We’re really excited,” Broatch said.
He’s happy about the weather forecast, which predicts sunny weather.
“There’s a joke that goes around that the Langley Invitational always draws rain – it’s incredible that somehow it always rains first weekend of June,” Broatch said.
“We were actually relieved that it rained so hard last weekend, because we’re hoping it emptied itself out.”
He’s hoping the community will come out and support the tournament.
“We encourage any sports or baseball enthusiast to come out, have a hotdog and catch a game. Come and see some of the better amateur athletes that our sport has to offer in Western Canada.”
Junior and Bantam Tritons will also co-host a Western Canada Showcase tournament from June 20 to 23, Broatch said, and the Senior Tritons also host the provincial camp July 2-4, which will feature the top 40 players in the province.
