Police in Surrey now say a woman has been stabbed, not shot after reports of a shooting in Whalley Thursday morning.

In a release sent Thursday morning (Jan. 6), Surrey RCMP said a woman was found “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds” and that her injuries were serious.

Later in the day, however, Surrey RCMP sent another release saying, “further investigation into the report of a shooting in the 10400-block of 140B Street has revealed that the woman was stabbed, not shot.”

But police say it does seem that shots were fired.

“Although the victim was not shot, there is evidence that a shooting did occur at the location,” according Surrey RCMP Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

The woman remains in hospital in stable condition.

Munn said investigators still believe the incident is “isolated,” and there is “no active threat to public safety.”

It was just before 9 a.m., police responded to a report of “gun shots heard inside a residence,” according to Munn.

Munn said when officers arrived they found a “vehicle leaving the area with a female victim.” She was taken to hospital.

She added officers found the home where the shooting was believed to have happened and multiple people were detained.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
