Two pedestrians struck after vehicle collision in Surrey

Both sent to hospital in ‘serious condition’

Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle after a two-vehicle collision Saturday evening.

Surrey RCMP responded to the collision, located at the 148 Street and Fraser Highway intersection, at approximately 6:35 p.m., an RCMP news release states.

“An Acura and a Ford collided in the intersection causing one of the vehicles to strike two pedestrians who were on foot in the area,” the release states.

Both pedestrians, a 50-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were transported to hospital in “serious condition.”

Police said both drivers remained on scene and are co-operating with police.

“Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in this collision,” the news release states.

Photojournalist Shane MacKichan told Peace Arch News that it “appeared that one (pedestrian) was partially trapped under the car. Firefighters were able to free them quickly.”

RCMP partially closed the intersection to conduct an investigation. The intersection was re-opened late Saturday evening.

The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone with more information, including any dash-cam footage, to contact police at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2019-6057.

To make an anonymous report, witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca
