Surrey Fire Service said there’s no flammability or toxicity concern after barrels of an unknown substance leaked into a water-filled ditch Saturday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Reo Jerome said crews responded to a call on the 12600-block of 112A Avenue to find a vehicle backed into a ditch.
“Crews had found some barrels in the back of his vehicle that had leaked into a water-filled ditch,” Jerome said on scene, adding that a neighbour reported seeing the driver abandon the vehicle on foot.
“No concerns at this point, our hazmat team came out and took some samples and determined that there was no flammability or toxicity concern.”
Surrey RCMP also responded to the incident, but SFD could not confirm if the truck had been stolen or not.
