Nominations for the provincial election closed Friday (Oct. 2) at 1 p.m., with three people in the running to represent the Surrey South riding, and five vying for the Surrey-White Rock seat.
According to the Elections BC candidate list – finalized Saturday (Oct. 3) – Surrey-White Rock candidates are Jason Bax (Libertarian), Trevor Halford (BC Liberal), Beverly (Pixie) Hobby (BC Green Party), Megan Knight (Independent) and Bryn Smith (BC NDP).
For Surrey South, the candidates are Stephanie Cadieux for the BC Liberals, Pauline Greaves for the BC NDP and Tim Ibbotson for the BC Green Party.
The Surrey-White Rock riding was formerly held by BC Liberal Tracy Redies until she announced her resignation effective Aug. 31 to become CEO of Science World.

Cadieux won the Surrey South seat in 2017 with 50 per cent of the votes.
Greaves, a professor in business and management at Langara College, ran for the Surrey mayor’s seat in the 2018 municipal election.
Halford ran for Surrey council in the last municipal election and works as a public affairs director with Trans Canada Corporation.
In an email to Peace Arch News, Smith says he has a master’s degree in political science and is in the process of obtaining his teacher’s qualification.
Knight – who initially sought the BC Liberal nomination – is a notary and former White Rock councillor, while Hobby – an environmental lawyer – ran for the South Surrey-White Rock seat in the last federal election.
According to information on the BC Libertarian Party website, Bax (whose surname is shown on the site as Baxevanidis) is a White Rock resident and “has had a diverse career spanning several industries: high-tech, high-finance and Hollywood North.”
Ibbotson “is a serial-entrepreneur, specializing in creative approaches to growing small businesses by modeling them after living systems vs. machines,” according to a profile at bcgreens.ca
There are a total of 332 candidates in the province; 32 are running in the Surrey/White Rock area’s nine ridings.
The election is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, with advance voting to take place from Friday, Oct. 16 to Wednesday, Oct. 21.
British Columbians also have the option to vote by mail-in ballot, which can be obtained at elections.bc.ca
