In response to reports of an overdose death in South Surrey early Monday morning, Surrey RCMP has confirmed the “sudden death” of an 18 year-old woman in the area but would not comment on the cause.

Cpl. Scotty Schumann told Peace Arch News Tuesday that the time of death was approximately 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 27.

“We are not confirming the cause of death,” he said. “No foul play is suspected.”

BC Coroners Service representative Andy Watson also confirmed the basic details of the case, but added “we are in the very early stages of the investigation and are still determining the cause of death.

“Due to concerns with regard to the privacy of the decedent, we wouldn’t want to speculate on the cause of death at this time,” he said.
