SURREY — A Surrey man was killed early Friday morning in a car crash in Cloverdale.

The victim, age 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surrey RCMP Sergeant Alanna Dunlop said his car hit a median, went into the oncoming lane, struck a lamp standard and then hit a tree.

"Speed is a factor in this crash," she said. "It's tragic."

The black car was heading westbound in the 18000-block of Fraser Highway on a curve down a hill, Dunlop noted. It happened at 12:45 a.m.

The man's name has not been released. His was Surrey's second traffic fatality in 2017.

Police are asking witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
