UPDATE: Woman suffers critical injuries in Surrey crash

Two pedestrians were hurt in the collision

SURREY — While two pedestrians were hurt in a Newton crash Friday night, one received far worse injuries, police said Monday.

Surrey RCMP say a 37-year-old woman suffered “just broken bones” and other minor injuries, but a 44-year-old woman remains in hospital Monday in “serious to almost critical condition.”

The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 near 128th Street and 80th Avenue.

Both pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk, according to police.

The driver remained on scene and is co-operating with Surrey RCMP.

Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision but the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team continues to investigate.

Surrey RCMP had 80th Avenue closed westbound at 128th Street after the Friday night crash. One lane was open in each direction on 128th Street approaching 80th Avenue, police said Friday night.

According to a release, traffic in the area was expected to be affected “for an undetermined amount of time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or solvecrime.ca.
