A woman in her 20s is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, after an early morning crash in a rural Delta neighbourhood.

A release from the Delta Police Department said that police were called to the 10200-block of Hornby Drive in South Delta just after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning (Dec. 19).

According to police, two pedestrians were walking eastbound on Hornby Drive while two vehicles were travelling westbound. A number of cars were parked on the side of the road at the time.

Police say that one of the westbound cars pulled over to the north shoulder of the road, while the other vehicle moved to pass it. One of the pedestrians was then hit; she was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the woman stayed on scene and is fully co-operating with police, Delta police public affairs manager Cris Leykauf said.

The speed limit on Hornby Drive is 80 km/h, and police say there is no indication the driver was speeding or impaired.
