A pedestrian died after a collision on Harris Road in Abbotsford on Sunday (Feb. 9).

A pedestrian died in Abbotsford on Sunday morning (Feb. 9) after a collision involving an alleged impaired driver. 

In a news release, the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) said officers responded to the crash on Harris Road at 7:54 a.m. 

Police say a white Dodge pickup truck struck a pedestrian and sheared off a power pole.  Civilians and first responders tried to save the pedestrian,  but he died from the injuries. 

The driver remained at the scene and was arrested for impaired driving by members of APD's Traffic Enforcement Unit, per the news release. 

APD said on Sunday an investigation from its major crime unit and the Integrated Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is in its early stages. 

Harris Road between Mt Lehman Road and Ross Road was closed for several hours after the crash while officers investigated.
