Man charged after assault with weapon near Surrey Central SkyTrain station

Surrey RCMP say 28-year-old Jaal Kueth remains in custody after violent assault Wednesday

A man has been charged after a violent assault with a weapon near the Surrey Central SkyTrain station just after noon Wednesday (Sept. 9), Surrey RCMP say.

Police say 28-year-old Jaal Kueth has been charged with aggravated assault after being tracked down in the 13700-block of 102 Avenue after the assault. Police are not saying what kind of weapon was used.

Police say shortly after 12:15 p.m., a Surrey RCMP Frontline officer was conducting a routine patrol when he found a man suffering from a serious injury in the 10200-block of City Parkway. He was taken to hospital, where police say he was still being treated as of Thursday afternoon (Sept. 10).

RCMP say the officer who found the victim “immediately applied life-saving measures”with the assistance of an RCMP Emergency Response Team medic, and the BC Ambulance Services.

“According to medical staff, without timely first aid including direct pressure on the wound, the victim in this incident would not have survived,” says Staff Sergeant Kirk Duncan, Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit Commander.

“In this case, the co-ordinated and quick actions of the officers and medics not only helped save the victim’s life but also resulted in the arrest of the suspect.”

Anyone with information about this assault is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
