North Delta crime beat, week of Feb. 21

A selection of property crimes submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

• Feb. 13, 10400-block Dunlop Rd.: A preschool reported someone had entered the building on the weekend and rummaged through cupboards and closets. Police attended and determined one of the main doors was likely left unlocked. Items stolen include bags of chips and Oreo cookies valued at $30. Investigation to continue with examination of surveillance video.

• Feb. 13, 7600-block 115th St.: Complainant reported their truck parked outside their residence was broken into sometime overnight. Approximately $1,000 worth of tools was stolen and the side mirror to the canopy was broken. No surveillance video available.

• Feb. 14, 700-block Caldew St.: Complainant reported the theft of tools sometime overnight from their company trailer parked behind the business. The metal bracket to the trailer door was damaged and approximately $20,000 worth of plumbing and welding tools was stolen. The incident is still under investigation pending the receipt of surveillance video.

• Feb. 15, North Delta Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had paid $3,100 for airline tickets which were later revoked by the airlines when it was discovered the tickets were fraudulent. The tickets had been purchased from an unknown male on WhatsApp. The bank likely will be able to recover the funds with a police file number. Police advised the complainant to contact Equifax and cease communication with the unknown male.

• Feb. 17, 10000 River Way: Complainant reported the catalytic converter stolen sometime overnight from their vehicle left in the parking lot of a business. Investigation to continue with possible surveillance video and information from the security company.

• Feb. 17, North Delta Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had been informed by a credit card company that an unknown person had attempted to open a credit card under the complainant’s name. They were informed by the credit card company that the request had been denied and there was no loss of funds. The complaint confirmed they had informed Equifax, TransUnion and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

• Feb. 18, 11900-block 88th Ave.: Complainant reported the catalytic converter stolen from their vehicle parked outside a local business. Police attended and the investigation will continue with the review of surveillance video.

• Feb. 19, 7900-block 120th St.: Complainant reported they had left their vehicle overnight in the parking lot of a business. When they returned they found the catalytic converter had been stolen. The business advised the surveillance video in the area not working. Theft and damage approximately $3,000.
