A man was taken to hospital after being stabbed in North Surrey.

At about 4:50 p.m. on July 17, Surrey RCMP was called to a report of a stabbing near 132 Street and 100 Avenue.

When they arrived, Surrey Mounties found a man suffering from stab wounds serious enough to require hospitalization.

He was taken for treatment and has since been released.

Police now say the victim and his attacker were in an altercation that escalated.

Both appear to be known to each other.

Investigators are attempting to gather information from various sources to identify exactly what transpired.

The suspect, who fled on foot, has not been captured by police, however, Mounties have learned out who it is and will be attempting to make an arrest as soon as possible.

"This was a targeted altercation between two persons that are known to each other", Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Dale CARR said in a release.

It is the second stabbing in Whalley in a matter of days.

Both circumstances were between people known to each other.
