Surrey Mounties say one man is in custody after members of the regional police Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to a home in the Fleetwood area Monday afternoon (June 3).

The incident happened in the area of 88 Avenue and 162 Street, not far from both Holy Cross Regional High School and Surrey Christian School’s Fleetwood campus.

At around 1:30 p.m., the RCMP responded to a 911 hang-up call, and quickly learned that a man “associated to the residence was armed and barricaded inside the home,” according to Sgt. Tammy Lobb, Surrey RCMP media relations unit.

Police blocked the area to all traffic, and by 5:42 p.m. the man was taken into custody. Roads have since reopened.
