Langley Conservative leadership debate sells out

With less than a week, high-profile candidate Kevin O'Leary still not confirmed

Organizers of the only Conservative leadership debate in the Fraser Valley said the Feb. 18 event in Langley sold out a week ahead of schedule.

“Our organizing committee is elated that in just two weeks the event was sold out” said Steve Schafer, President of the Conservatives’ Cloverdale – Langley City Electoral District Association.

“We released an additional 100 tickets and those have sold out as well.”

However, two of the 14 hopefuls are likely no-shows for the afternoon event at Darvonda Nurseries.

High-profile candidate Kevin O’Leary has still not committed to attending the “Debate in the Valley,” and Deepak Obhrai has previously scheduled engagements in Quebec and Ottawa.

“We continue to hope all candidates will make BC a priority,” said  Schafer.

He said nearly 600 people from all over the province are coming.

“We believe this speaks to the immense interest this Leadership contest has generated, and the strength of the Conservative movement in general,” Schafer said.

The debate was organized by the Conservative associations in Abbotsford, Langley-Aldergrove, and Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon.
