Surrey Fire Service and Fortis BC responded to a gas leak at a construction site in Surrey’s City Centre on Tuesday morning (Feb. 5).
Chris Keon, assistant chief of operations, said the department arrived on scene to the pulled gas line at 9:48 a.m. Keon said an excavator pulled the gas line at the construction site for the new Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Sustainable Energy and Engineering Building.
Keon said Fortis BC arrived 10 mins after the fire department.
A Black Press Media freelancer on the scene said the fire department cordoned off the area, including closing University Drive between 102A Avenue and Central Avenue.
The site, Keon said, was shut down until the gas leak was contained.
Keon said the fire department stayed on scene until 3:33 p.m. “in case something occurred.”
