Delta’s George Mackie Library invites teens to enter writing contest about heroes

The George Mackie Library is inviting teens to write a short story about any hero, fiction or nonfiction, for the chance at a $50 gift certificate and a book of their choice.

The Teen Summer Short Story Writing Contest, presented by the Teen Advisory Group, runs from June 21 until the deadline of 9 p.m. on July 26.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 19 can enter, and winners will be selected from the two age categories of younger teens, in grades 7 through 9, and older teens, in grades 10 through 12.

Each winner will be given a $50 gift certificate for Chapters or Cineplex as well as a book of their choice from the library.

According to the rules for the contest, each story must be an original work no longer than 2,000 words, and include the name, grade, email and/or phone number of the author.

Entrants can drop off a maximum of one story at the library help desk or email them to msidhu@fvrl.bc.ca. The stories will not be returned.
