Delta has now entered its first “high” fire hazard rating of the season following several days of high temperatures and no rain.
A high fire rating means that forested areas of the municipality are very dry, and the risk of fire is serious. New fires may start easily and burn vigorously.
Delta staff are reminding residents that an agricultural burning ban remains in effect, and all backyard campfires and open cooking fires (except approved briquette and propane barbecues) continue to be banned in all areas of Delta.
Residents are also reminded to use caution when smoking on private property, and are asked to make sure matches and cigarettes are fully extinguished and disposed of in a metal or glass container. As always, smoking continues to be prohibited in all parks and open spaces.
Residents are asked to report any unauthorized activity that poses a risk of fire by calling the Delta Police Department’s non-emergency line at 604- 946-4411. Any fires in progress should be reported to 911.
