Police investigating a serious collision between a motorcycle and a Smart Car in Newton Monday

A motorcyclist is clinging to life after colliding with a car in Newton.

At noon on Monday (Sept. 26), a man on a motorcycle was heading westbound on 72 Avenue near Comber Way (134 Street), when he collided with a Smart Car heading eastbound on 72 Avenue but turning left onto Comber Way.

The man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The woman driving the Smart Car suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Speed is not considered a factor in the accident.

It has not been determined if alcohol or distraction contributed to the collision.

As a result of the accident, 72 Avenue was closed in both directions most of the day Monday.
