Photographers from BC Assessment will roam the streets of White Rock to take photos of commercial and residential properties throughout the city.

The photo update initiative, which is for property-assessment purposes, is scheduled to begin Dec. 10 and continue until Jan. 31.

“BC Assessment is continually updating property data to ensure timely, accurate, equitable and fair assessment for all property owners,” a news release published on the BC Assessment website states.

BC Assessment communications co-ordinator Tim Morrison told Peace Arch News Wednesday that BC Assessment’s photo library for White Rock is in need of an update, and Google provides less-than-ideal images.

A BC Assessment photo for 1081 Martin St., for example, is pulled from Google Maps and shows only a row of trees, however the multiple-residence structure listed was built in 1972 and is assessed at $5.6 million, including land and buildings.

The news release says that BC Assessment employees will be driving through White Rock neighbourhoods and photograph only the public street front of a home, including the street address number.

BC Assessment will not, the release states, retain any personal information related to images of people on the property; images of the interior of homes; or signage including business signs, signs with names of the people living at the property, and any other type of signage that may relate to the identity of a person.
