The federal and B.C. governments are set to shell out $93 million for new Skytrain cars, as part of Metro Vancouver’s 10-year plan to improve transit and transportation.
The 28 new Skytrain fleets, each made up of four cars, will increase capacity by about 12 per cent, or 36,000 riders, and will add to the already existing 286 fleets.

Translink CEO Kevin Desmond said ordering and building the cars should be complete by the end of 2018, and they’ll hit the tracks by early 2019.
“We need more fleet, we need more capacity,” Desmond told reporters Friday at VCC Clark station.
The 10-year plan, approved in late November, is backed by $470 million from the federal government, $308 million from the province, and about $120 million from regional municipalities.
