Shannon was in excruciating pain when she arrived at Delta Hospital’s Emergency Department late one evening. New to British Columbia, and worried about navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system, she felt immediate relief with the compassionate care she received.
Following multiple tests, the Emergency Department team diagnosed Shannon with gallstones, and she was quickly referred for further consultations, including with Delta Hospital surgeon Dr. Mata, who brought relief for the months-long pain.

Today, Delta Hospital’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the region, with more than 40,200 patient visits last year – double what it was just five years ago.
